Caitlin Wheeler graduated with an MSc (Med) in Genomic Medicine from the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits) in 2022. Her research project centred around the influence of CYP3A5 single nucleotide polymorphisms on tacrolimus (an immunosuppressive drug) pharmacokinetics in pediatric liver transplant patients. Through this project, she gained valuable clinical research experience at the Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre and laboratory experience at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR).

Caitlin is currently pursuing her PhD in Human Genetics at Wits and CSIR, where her research focuses on unravelling the complexities of liver disease, particularly autoimmune hepatitis, using single-cell RNA sequencing.
