Nicole

Nicole Keuler is a pharmacist, researcher and educator from Cape Town, South Africa.  

She leads the Masters in Clinical Pharmacy programme presented by the School of Pharmacy at the University of the Western Cape in Cape Town, South Africa. Her research is focused on pharmacogenomics (PGx), paediatrics, clinical pharmacy, rational medicine use.

Her PhD aims to develop a pharmacogenomics curriculum framework for pharmacy education in South Africa. Through the University of Missouri South African Education Programme she was able to observe PGx clinics in the United States and bring back her experiences to South Africa. She is the vice-chair of the Global Committee of the Pharmacogenomics Global Research Network and a member of the Clinical Pharmacogenomics Implementation Consortium. She was the co-organiser of the PGx Winter School and Stakeholder Engagement Workshop, two inaugural events which took place in July 2025 with the aim to develop a national PGx stewardship programme to advance PGx in South Africa.

She believes our patients will be healthier when we collaborate with an interprofessional team. Collaborating with international colleagues is one of the most inspiring opportunities in her career. International collaboration, interprofessional collaboration, education and research are important pillars to successfully implement PGx in SA.
